Lenses

I-CUBE carries a wide variety of camera lenses.  Due to the large number available, we can only list some of the most common (see Lens Selector Chart to browse). Please contact us if you have a specific lens requirement or question.

Video Inspection Optics

Lenses for Viewing Objects 2" or Smaller

Navitar offers the Zoom 6000 and 12X Zoom video microscope systems which will outperform any video lenses for close-up, high magnification applications. Typically, video lenses were designed to work from 3' to infinity, but Navitar's Zoom 6000 and 12X lenses are ideal for applications that require a much shorter working distance. These rugged lenses have built-in locking set screws and can handle the vibration of a typical machine application. And because they are specifically designed for high magnification, they have a higher contrast level and less edge distortion that conventional video lenses.

Lenses for Viewing Objects 2" or Larger

Navitar offers the Zoom 7000 macro lenses featuring the same parfocal zoom capabilities offered by the Zoom 6000 and 12X Zoom series while allowing close-up image capture without extension tubes or close-up lenses.

Using Lenses with Megapixel Cameras

Older model lenses designed to be used with video cameras may compromise image quality when used with cameras having higher than 480 vertical lines.  Megapixel lenses are designed to yield greater point to point accuracy and should be carefully considered when choosing a lens for demanding imaging applications.

General lens selector criteria

NOTE: these are basic guidelines and are not appropriate for exact lens selection. For a specific lens recommendation, contact I-CUBE

Needed measurements:

  • Camera-to-object distance (OD): distance from face of camera to object

Do not confuse working distance with Camera-to-object distance. Working distance is measured from the front of the lens to the object being viewed

  • Object size

If you are measuring the width of your object, then use the horizontal CCD specifications

  • CCD size (HxV):

  • 1/3" CCD = 4.8mm x 3.6mm

  • 1/2" CCD = 6.4mm x 4.8mm

  • 2/3" CCD = 8.8mm x 6.6mm

  • 1" CCD = 12.8mm x 9.6mm

  • 1" = 25.4mm

Formulas:

  • Magnification (M) = Object size / CCD size

  • Focal length (FL) = OD / (M + 2 + 1/M)

Example:

Camera-to-object distance = 12" = 304.8mm

Selected camera: 1/2" CCD

Object size: 3" = 76.2mm

Preferred orientation: horizontal

M = 76.2 / 6.4mm = 11.9

FL = 304.8 / (11.9+2+ (1 / 11.9)) = 304.8 / 13.98 = 21.8mm

Lens choice: 25mm
