Note: The new Power Mac G5 "Dual-Core" computers are equipped with "PCI Express" expansion slots which are not compatible with current digital camera interface boards. The Dual-Core G5s can, however, use FireWire-based (IEEE 1394) cameras. FireWire cameras are not affected by the type of PCI slot.
G5s sold before October 12, 2005:
These computers require PCI cards that operate at 3.3 volts. Prior to 2004 most camera interface cards operated at 5 volts. 5 volt cards cannot be plugged into a G5. "Universal" cards that work with both 3.3 and 5 volt slots are now available from the following manufacturers, for use in these G5 and older machines:
"Dual Core" G5s, sold after October 12, 2005:
These computers do not have PCI slots. They use a new interface called "PCI Express." None of the above cameras currently have a PCI Express interface card available. Please contact your camera's manufacturer for additional information on PCI Express interface boards.

In General
Image processing requires a lot of memory to store the active image data. The more memory you have available to IPLab, the better the program will perform.
Cameras and camera interfaces will require a PCI slot or a FireWire (IEEE-1394) port. Some hardware, such as motorized microscopes, will require a serial port.
